[Scholarship-comm] 50/50 match and social media announcement

This sounds very good to me. I like having people responsible for some of the cost. This way, the scholarship helps people who want something bad enough to cut their spending back where they can and save for the item. I realize that some people can’t cut back any more than they already are. But people often value something more and use it more if they have to work for it.

I know I am coming in late on this conversation, so sorry if I say or ask things that have already been resolved. But here goes. Has there been any discussion of whether the technology to be purchased must be new or can it be used, and if used and purchased from a person (not a company), what happens if the seller does not follow through and provide the item after being paid? I am thinking of email lists for buying items. This may be too far afield for us to consider, so sorry if I am bringing up something irrelevant.

Looking forward to our meeting,

Terrie Terlau

Everyone:

Firstly, our discussion with the board on the 50/50 match for items has

only had one response, which leaves me to believe that this is the group

consensus. So, per our previous discussion at Thursday's meeting, we are

going to remove the $50 minimum, and replace it with a 50/50 matching

statement.

What do you all think of the following:

F. KCB will only match fifty percent (50%) of the purchase cost of a

product/service up to the total amount allocated by the KCB Board of

Directors. The total of grants awarded is not to exceed five-hundred

dollars ($500) annually. Award recipients shall be responsible for

providing the remaining portion for such products/services.

Social Media Announcement:

Below is my draft of the announcement to be sent out on social media:

The Kentucky Council of the Blind is proud to announce a great

opportunity for its members. We will be awarding up to $500 as a 50/50

match to assist members with purchasing assistive technology devices or

services. So, if it is a note taker, a computer, electronic device,

software, or subscription service, KCB may be able to help you through

its grant program. You can complete the application either by

completing the Google Form located at

Or for a word version of the application, please download it from

Please note that all applications are due by Oct 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM

EST. If you have any questions, please contact Matt Selm, the

Scholarship Committee Chair. His Contact info is located on the

application.

I have updated the application to list my contact info as well.

I look forward to hearing everyone's feedback on these revisions as well

as the previous ones that I sent out. Please respond as soon as possible.

Matt
