KCB Board Meeting – December, 2017

President Debbie Deatherage called the monthly meeting of the KCB Board of Directors to order via conference call at 7:35 PM (Eastern) on Monday, December 18, 2017. Answering the roll call were Debbie Deatherage, Joey Couch, Gerry Slusher, Rick Boggess, Carla Ruschival, Amanda Selm, Josh Gentry, Bill Wright, Sheryl Lott, Frank Campbell, Matt Selm, Bill Roberts, David Smith and Adam Ruschival. Jonathon McCarty, Deb Lewis, Dennis Runyan and Winter Renfrow were absent. Guests Elaine Weisbard and Patti Cox checked in late.

President Debbie Deatherage called for reading the November 21 board meeting minutes and summary which were distributed in advance. Frank Campbell made a motion, seconded by Adam Ruschival, to dispense with their reading and approval. The motion was approved.

Treasurer’s Report

Carla Ruschival reported November 30 balances. Bill Wright made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. The motion was seconded by Rick Boggess and approved.

Old Business

President Deatherage inquired about interest in sending someone to the ACB President’s Meeting and Legislative Seminar on February 24-27 in Alexandria, VA. Last year KCB paid air fare, hotel (based on double occupancy), registration and some ground transportation. The monthly check from investments could cover the cost of sending someone. Attending the meeting may be worthwhile, even for those unable to go to Capitol Hill. Gerry Slusher can go but cannot do the Capitol Hill visit. It would be good to send two people with one serving as a guide if we do the Capitol Hill visit. In the past we have visited all Kentucky representatives and Senators. Alternatives might include visiting the two senators and home district representative for the person attending or visiting the two senators and all KY representatives with offices in the same building. Carla thinks the President’s Meeting and Legislative Seminar will be broadcast on ACB Radio.

New Business

Carla has received the E-Racers check for participation in the ACB Brenda Dillon Memorial Walk.

Carla indicated that KCB auction participation was up due to sharing proceeds with chapters and reported the amounts being returned to participating chapters.

Adam Ruschival asked if KCB convention thank yous have been sent out. Carla has not sent anything out. Rick Boggess sent an email thank you to Lorran Hart-Ferguson for her STABLE accounts presentation. She responded with answers to meeting questions which have been shared with Carla.

Adam Ruschival asked about the number participating in the APH Accessibility survey. They were able to talk with as many as 31 or 32 people.

President Deatherage reported that a search is underway for someone to replace retiring KSB Charitable Foundation Executive Director Rick Ricks at the end of January.

Carla Ruschival suggested doing another Crossroads conference since it has been a couple of years since the last one. We know there will be hotel space in April. In the past people from several other states have attended. There will probably not be a Midwest conference this coming year since they had one in 2017. Carla made a motion to form a committee to explore having a Crossroads conference in April 2018 and report to the board at its January 15 meeting. Amanda Selm seconded the motion which was approved. Amanda volunteered to chair the committee. Patti Cox also volunteered to serve. Anyone interested in serving should contact Amanda.
